In 2022, George Gregory, the Whitefield Paedophile, residing on Cambeck, was sentenced to three years and four months in prison at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court on Wednesday, November 2, after admitting to two charges of sexual assault against a child under the age of 13.

Prosecutor Jon Close informed the court that George Gregory exhibited pornographic material to his victim and perpetrated sexual assault during two distinct occurrences.

The court was informed that George Gregory instructed his victim to remain silent about the incidents, threatening that he would face incarceration otherwise.

Prosecutor Close informed the court that George Gregory confessed to having “messed around” with his victim during a taped discussion.

The court also saw excerpts from a victim impact statement that outlined the victim’s difficulties with concentrating in school and the resultant trust issues stemming from the assaults perpetrated by George Gregory.

In mitigation, defence attorney Stuart Neale urged that Gregory’s “ill health” and “poor mobility” be considered in his sentencing, asserting that incarceration would “weigh heavily” on George Gregory due to his age and medical issues.

Mr Neale stated that George Gregory acknowledged his culpability “from the outset,” exhibited “remorse,” and possesses no pertinent prior convictions.

He also recounted how George Gregory endured a “terrible childhood,” experienced a “difficult young adulthood,” and is now confronting in his seventies the “collapse of his life.”

The court was informed that after the complaint was made, George Gregory attempted suicide and was subsequently arrested upon his discharge from the hospital.

The court was informed that George Gregory and his residence had been assaulted subsequent to his arrest.

Recorder Peter Wright recognised the mitigating factors and stated that George Gregory’s “delicate physical condition and mental state” would be considered in the sentencing.

Recorder Wright addressed George Gregory, stating: “You possess no pertinent prior convictions, and I regard you as a man of good character under these circumstances.”

He asserted that he assumed George Gregory overdosed when the “magnitude” of his actions became “evident to all.”

Recorder Wright stated that George Gregory “groomed” a “naive and trusting” child to whom he exhibited “sexually explicit material” and subsequently molested.

Addressing George Gregory directly, Recorder Wright stated: “You employed emotional coercion by informing your victim that if they disclosed the matter, you would face incarceration.”

He stated that George Gregory’s acts were “exploitative” and constituted a “abuse of trust accompanied by grooming behaviour,” which had a “profound” effect on the victim.

George Gregory received a sentence of three years and four months in jail, was imposed with a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO) for five years, and was registered on the Sex Offenders’ Register indefinitely.
