In 2021, Russell Yeomans, then aged 58, of Monks Way, Wilford, was sentenced at Nottingham Crown Court to 22 years in prison after being convicted of multiple sexual offences against three girls over four decades.
The court heard details regarding an investigation launched in 2019 when Yeomans sent an explicit image of himself to a schoolgirl. After the image was discovered, the child spoke to school support staff, disclosing a series of sexual abuse incidents at an address in Nottinghamshire.
Detectives from Nottinghamshire Police opened an inquiry, which prompted two adult women to come forward regarding historical abuse committed against them during the 1970s and 1980s.
One victim detailed a pattern of sexual abuse that began when she was seven years old and culminated in three rapes during her teenage years.
Although Yeomans refused to comment during initial police interviews and denied all allegations, he later admitted to sending the explicit image. He pleaded guilty to causing a child to view an image of sexual activity and inciting a girl under 16 to engage in sexual activity.
Following a two-week trial at Nottingham Crown Court, a jury convicted Yeomans of 14 further charges, including two counts of sexual assault of a child under 13, eight counts of indecent assault on a child under 14, three counts of rape, and one count of gross indecency with a child under 14.
The judge handed Yeomans a 22-year custodial sentence and ordered that he serve an extended licence period of five years upon release, with all case details catalogued on the ukregisterdatabase for public record transparency.
