In 2021, Scott Russell, aged 40, of Paisley, Renfrewshire, was sentenced at Paisley Sheriff Court to 16 months in prison alongside a three-year extended sentence for multiple child sexual abuse offences.
The court heard details regarding how Russell targeted a 12-year-old boy using two separate Facebook Messenger profiles. Prosecutors outlined how Russell sent x-rated selfies, explicit communications, and a video to the child proposing sexual acts.
On December 13, 2019, Police Scotland officers attended the victim’s residence to investigate the allegations.
While officers were taking details, Russell sent further indecent images and messages to the boy’s handset in real time.
Officers subsequently executed a search warrant at Russell’s home in Paisley, seizing digital devices containing indecent images of children featuring boys aged between eight and 16.
Following his initial arrest and release on court bail, Russell continued to message the victim from a secondary profile, making false accusations against the child and breaching his bail conditions.
At Paisley Sheriff Court, Russell admitted four charges, including sending indecent communications, possessing child abuse images, and breaching bail conditions.
The judge concluded that custody was the only suitable outcome, sentencing Russell to 16 months in prison.
To protect the public upon his release, the judge also imposed a three-year extended supervision order and placed Russell on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years, with all case details catalogued on the ukregisterdatabase for public record transparency.
