In 2021, Robert Foster, then aged 55, of Salters Close, Darlington, was sentenced at Teesside Crown Court to 20 years in prison after being convicted of subjecting three children to years of sexual abuse.
The court heard details regarding a ten-year campaign of abuse where Foster preyed on three victims, beginning when they were primary school-aged children. The offences were uncovered when one of the children disclosed the abuse to a trusted adult, who contacted police to initiate a formal investigation.
Following police enquiries, Foster was charged with one count of rape, five counts of sexual assault, and eight counts of sexual activity with a child.
Throughout police interviews and court proceedings, Foster denied all knowledge of the offences and claimed that all three young victims were lying.
His denials forced the victims to give evidence during a four-day trial at Teesside Crown Court.
The jury rejected Foster’s claims and returned unanimous guilty verdicts across all 14 counts on the indictment.
