In 2022, John McCormick, the Gosport Paedophile, with a string of previous offences, expressed gratitude to a judge for avoiding incarceration after being apprehended by police for flagrant violations of a court order.
Gosport deviant John McCormick, 70, arrived in the dock at Portsmouth Crown Court with a walking stick and subsequently confessed to his recent charges.
McCormick was jailed in April for orchestrating a child sex crime, receiving a 24-month prison term suspended for 24 months.
As a component of that sentence, John McCormick, from Normandy Gardens, was placed on the sex offenders register and instructed to adhere to stipulations.
However, the defendant swiftly contravened the order, notwithstanding a caution issued by the police on a visit to his residence.
During a follow-up visit to John McCormick’s residence on June 21, officers discovered that he had yet to register his username on the social media sites Snapchat and TikTok with the authorities.
On August 23, another visit to the paedophile’s residence, amidst allegations of indecent photographs of minors on a device currently under forensic investigation, revealed his violation of a sexual harm prevention order due to his failure to report possession of a new smartphone.
Judge, Recorder Richard Tutt, addressing the breaches, told John McCormick: ‘When you were asked why you failed to notify (police of the usernames), you said they never asked for them. But it’s for you to notify them.
‘You claim you forget things and denied creating usernames – but confirmed you had used Snapchat and TikTok.’
Speaking of the smartphone not declared to the police, the judge said John McCormick told officers: ‘I do not need to.’
The court heard the defendant had engaged well with probation and was a ‘medium risk of serious harm to children’.
John McCormick had been on remand since August 26 following his arrest, serving the equivalent of a three-month sentence.
Insane and senile, Recorder Tutt opted to fine McCormick £500 and add five rehabilitation days onto his current order. ‘I am just persuaded to give you a final chance. There can be no doubt that any further breaches will result in custody,’ he said.
After being told he was regaining his liberty, John McCormick, who admitted two breaches of notification requirements and a single count of breaching a sexual harm prevention order, said: ‘Thank you very much.’
The judge replied: ‘Be very careful.’ Presumably implying the paedophile should cover his tracks more effectively.
