A British Transport Police paedophile, James Chatfield, was convicted in 2022 for attempting to have sex with a child via social media.

Sergeant James Chatfield, then 36, pretended to be a 17-year-old lad and began conversing with someone he thought was a 12-year-old girl.

A court heard that throughout their conversations in September, he asked her to send him private pictures via Chat Avenue and Snapchat.

In reality, Chatfield was talking to a South Wales Police undercover agent, who informed BTP’s professional standards division.

On November 18, the London-based officer entered a guilty plea to two charges of attempting to have sex with a minor at Westminster Magistrates’ Court.

On Wednesday, a judge sentenced him to six months in prison with an 18-month suspension, which means he won’t go to jail until he commits another crime.

A seven-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order was also granted to him.

NO PRISON
