Registered sex offender Sean Royle, aged 40, of Claremont Road, Maidstone, Kent, was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment at Maidstone Crown Court on Monday, 17 August 2026, after pleading guilty to breaching his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
The court heard that Royle was subject to strict SHPO conditions prohibiting him from possessing or using any internet-enabled device without prior police authorisation.
On 21 May 2026, Royle was involved in a vehicle collision on Palace Avenue directly in front of Maidstone police station. As uniformed officers rushed outside to attend to the collision, a detective stationed inside the building observed Royle acting suspiciously and throwing an object over a wall towards an adjacent river.
Officers were alerted and jumped over the wall, successfully recovering the discarded item, which was confirmed to be a mobile phone. Once Royle was identified and his court restrictions verified, he was taken into custody.
Appearing before Maidstone Crown Court, Royle pleaded guilty to:
- One count of breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO)
The presiding judge handed Royle a custodial sentence of 12 months’ imprisonment.
