Mohammed Yosuf Mahmood Tleb, aged 29, previously of Northampton, Northamptonshire, has been sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment at Northampton Crown Court after being found guilty of attempted rape and sexual assault.
The conviction follows an investigation by Northamptonshire Police into an early-hours sexual attack in Abington Park, Northampton, on 23 January.
The court heard that Tleb accosted a woman in the park, subjecting her to a serious sexual assault during which he kissed her and touched her sexually without her consent.
Detectives from the constabulary’s SOLAR team launched an inquiry and successfully identified Tleb as the suspect, arresting him two days after the incident.
Tleb was subsequently charged with attempted rape and two counts of sexual assault.
Tleb pleaded not guilty, but following a Crown Court trial that concluded on 29 July, the jury rejected his defence, returning unanimous guilty verdicts on all three offences.
Speaking after the sentencing, Detective Constable Hayley Reed of the SOLAR Team said: “This was a deeply distressing incident for this woman, and I would like to commend her bravery in coming forward and reporting what happened. Her courage throughout the investigation and court process has been instrumental in ensuring Tleb has been held accountable for his actions.”
On Friday, 11 September 2026, the judge sentenced Tleb to an immediate custodial sentence of 15 years (180 months).
Release Calculation: Under UK sentencing legislation governing determinate sentences of seven years or more for serious sexual offences, standard release at the halfway mark does not apply. Tleb is required to serve a mandatory minimum of two-thirds (10 years / 120 months) of his 15-year sentence in prison custody before becoming eligible to apply for statutory release on licence. Upon release, he will remain subject to strict licence conditions and probation supervision in the community for the remaining five years of the sentence.
