In 2019, Adam King, then aged 38, formerly of Goldcrest Way, Bicester, Oxfordshire, was sentenced to four years’ imprisonment (48 months) at Sheffield Crown Court after admitting to the sexual assault of an eight-year-old child.
The conviction followed an investigation by South Yorkshire Police into abuse committed during a charity-run residential trip in South Yorkshire.
The court heard that King, a former teacher, had gained access to the victim while working as an adult volunteer supervisor for Diabetes UK.
During the excursion, King subjected the eight-year-old boy to sexual assault.
Following the trip, the young child immediately disclosed King’s conduct to his parents, who contacted the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) to alert police and launch a formal criminal investigation.
Despite demonstrating no remorse throughout the proceedings, King entered a guilty plea prior to trial due to the weight of evidence compiled by detectives.

Detective Constable Kath Coulter described King as a predatory paedophile whose actions fully matched the description, noting that he had exploited his position of trust and caused distress by initially withholding an admission of guilt.
Judge Peter Kelson QC commended the young survivor for displaying remarkable bravery and honesty throughout the legal process.
The judge handed down a custodial sentence of four years’ imprisonment and imposed a lifelong Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) prohibiting King from having any unsupervised contact with children under 16 years of age.
Release Calculation: Under UK sentencing legislation governing sexual offences, King was required to serve two-thirds (32 months / 2 years and 8 months) of his 48-month sentence in prison custody before becoming eligible for statutory release on licence, serving the remaining 16 months under community supervision.
