A 20-year-old man from Worksop has been handed an extended 15-year sentence at Nottingham Crown Court after being declared a dangerous offender for repeatedly raping two victims and holding a third young victim captive for nearly four weeks.

Lucan Wright, of Worksop, appeared for sentence via video link on Tuesday 13 October 2026 following a major safeguarding and public protection investigation led by Nottinghamshire Police.

The court was told that Wright’s violent and sexually abusive conduct began in 2023 when he was 17 years old. During that period, Wright carried out multiple rapes against a girl and an adult woman in Nottinghamshire. Alongside the sexual attacks, Wright subjected both victims to controlling and coercive behaviour and repeated threats of violence.

His offending escalated further between December 2025 and January 2026, when he held another teenage girl captive inside a residential property in Worksop for nearly a month. Throughout this prolonged period of false imprisonment, Wright repeatedly assaulted the victim, choked her through non-fatal strangulation, and issued direct threats to kill her.

The investigation was launched after all three victims courageously came forward to Nottinghamshire Police to report the abuse they had suffered. Detectives arrested Wright and gathered digital, forensic, and testimonial evidence to build the prosecution case.

Wright entered guilty pleas to assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH) and assault by beating, but maintained not guilty pleas to all serious sexual offences, false imprisonment, and threats to kill. The case proceeded to a contested trial at Nottingham Crown Court, where in July 2026 a jury rejected his defence and convicted him of all outstanding counts.

Passing sentence on 13 October 2026, Judge Michael Auty formally assessed Wright as a dangerous offender who poses a significant risk of serious harm to the public, concluding that an extended determinate sentence was necessary.

Under the provisions of the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 1992 and Section 49 of the Children and Young Persons Act 1933, all victims of sexual offences and child witnesses connected to criminal proceedings are protected by automatic, lifelong statutory anonymity. Publishing, broadcasting, or disseminating any details, names, addresses, workplaces, educational facilities, or photographs capable of leading to public identification is strictly prohibited under UK law.

Wright was convicted of:

Multiple counts of rape

False imprisonment

Non-fatal strangulation

Threats to kill

Controlling and coercive behaviour

Assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH)

Assault by beating

Passing sentence, Judge Michael Auty imposed an extended sentence of 15 years, comprising 12 years in immediate custody and an extended licence period of three years.

Alongside the extended custodial sentence, the court ordered:

Mandatory lifetime notification requirements on the Sex Offenders Register under the provisions of the Sexual Offences Act 2003

An indefinite restraining order remaining in force until further order, barring any direct or indirect contact with all three victims

Strict statutory extended licence supervision conditions enforceable upon release from prison
