Joshua Turner, then aged 31, of Hadley, Telford, Shropshire, was handed an extended sentence of 11 years at Shrewsbury Crown Court on Friday, 28 August 2026, after pleading guilty to rape, grievous bodily harm, perverting the course of justice, and coercive control against four women.
The prosecution followed comprehensive investigations into sustained domestic abuse committed against four female partners over several years.
The court heard that Turner subjected one partner to severe physical violence, kicking her in the stomach while she was pregnant and breaking her arm during an argument. Turner refused to call for an ambulance and threatened her to ensure she concealed the cause of the injury.
A second victim described being systematically isolated from friends and family, with Turner bombarding her with phone calls whenever she was in public.
A third victim bravely reported that Turner had raped her, with her personal statement detailing ongoing trauma and severe flashbacks.
The court heard that when a fourth victim attended a police station to report his abusive behaviour, Turner attempted to call her mobile phone 50 times. Following his remand in prison, Turner continued to send threatening letters and make phone calls demanding that she withdraw her allegations.
In June 2025, Turner pleaded guilty to one count of coercive control and one count of perverting the course of justice. On the first day of his trial in October 2025, he entered further guilty pleas to rape, a second count of coercive control, and grievous bodily harm.
The presiding judge sentenced Turner to an extended sentence of 11 years, comprising a nine-year custodial term (108 months) and an extended licence period of two years (24 months).
The court also imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) requiring Turner to inform police of any new intimate relationships, alongside restraining orders prohibiting contact with all four victims.
Release Calculation: Under UK sentencing legislation governing extended determinate sentences for serious violent and sexual offenders, Turner is not eligible for automatic statutory release. He is required to serve two-thirds (72 months / 6 years) of his nine-year prison term in custody before becoming eligible to apply for parole. His earliest parole eligibility date is August 2032. If approved for release by the Parole Board, Turner will remain subject to strict licence conditions and statutory community supervision until the expiration of the full 11-year extended sentence in August 2037.
