James White has been sentenced to 24 years’ imprisonment after being convicted of a violent and coercive five-week campaign of domestic abuse, knife attacks, and rape against a woman.
The criminal investigation began on 30 November 2025 following an emergency 999 call made at 1:08pm. A relative contacted police after receiving a distressed call from the victim, who disclosed that she was in immediate danger and that White was inside the residential address armed with a knife. White fled the property shortly after the alert was raised.
When officers and paramedics arrived at the scene, the victim was found with extensive physical injuries, including severe bruising to her face, back, and torso. She further revealed that White had repeatedly threatened her with a knife and had used the weapon to inflict cut wounds to her abdomen during the ordeal.
Police units immediately circulated White’s details and initiated an urgent search of the surrounding area. At 1:36pm—just 28 minutes after the emergency call—officers located White inside a nearby public house and placed him under arrest.
Further safeguarding enquiries established that White had subjected the victim to continuous abuse between 17 October and 30 November 2025. During this timeframe, White engaged in controlling and coercive behaviour, carried out repeated physical attacks, threatened to kill the victim, choked her during two separate incidents of intentional strangulation, and subjected her to multiple rapes and sexual assaults.
White denied all wrongdoing and pleaded not guilty to the entire indictment. Following a Crown Court trial, a jury found him guilty on 9 June 2026 of:
- Two counts of rape of a woman over 16
- One count of assault of a female 13 and over by penetration with a body part
- One count of engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour in an intimate relationship
- Five counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm (ABH)
- Two counts of threatening a person with a knife in a private place
- One count of threats to kill
- Two counts of intentional strangulation
The presiding judge sentenced White to a total custodial term of 24 years’ imprisonment.
