In 2026, James Finlay, a 38-year-old man from Redcar, was jailed for four years after being convicted of sexually assaulting and inciting a young child.
James Finlay, of Redcar, was sentenced at Durham Crown Court on Thursday, 30 July 2026, after a jury found him guilty at trial of sexual assault and inciting a child to engage in sexual activity. The court heard that in July 2022, Finlay incited the young girl to engage in sexual activity and simulated sexual intercourse against her over her clothing.
The judge sentenced Finlay to four years in prison. The court also made him subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
Following his convictions for child sexual offences, Finlay was placed on the Sex Offenders Register.
He also remains subject to statutory public protection notification requirements, licence conditions, and mandatory risk management protocols by law enforcement upon any eventual release from custody.
