The court heard that Hopkins was arrested in March 2025 by the South West Regional Organised Crime Unit (SWROCU) after officers discovered he was planning online to meet a young child for abuse. Further investigation revealed that he was paying to livestream the abuse of a nine-year-old girl in the Philippines, facilitated by her mother. International law enforcement and the NCA intervened to safeguard the child and arrest the mother. Digital forensics also uncovered evidence of Hopkins committing non-recent rape, attempted rape, and sexual assault against a young child in the UK.
The judge sentenced Hopkins to 22 years in custody, alongside an eight-year extended licence period. The court also made him subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
Following his convictions for child rape and international sexual exploitation, Hopkins was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
He also remains subject to statutory public protection notification requirements, lifetime licence supervision, and mandatory risk management protocols by law enforcement upon any eventual release from custody.
