Abdoulie Jobe, then aged 29, of Harmsworth Crescent, Hove, was sentenced to 15 years in prison at Hove Crown Court in November 2022 after being found guilty of multiple serious sexual offences, including two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, committed against three separate women.

The court heard that Jobe systematically preyed on women met in Brighton city centre between July and August 2021, taking advantage of moments of vulnerability. The first incident occurred on the night of 27 July 2021 inside a Brighton nightclub, where Jobe harassed a woman despite objections from her and her friends. He sexually assaulted her over her clothing before security removed him from the venue. While CCTV captured the attack, officers were initially unable to identify him.

Less than a month later, on the night of 24 August 2021, Jobe met a second victim at a flat in the city and raped her while they were briefly alone. On the night of 28 August into 29 August 2021, Jobe targeted a third woman while drinking outside a seafront club. After returning to a flat with the group, Jobe raped the victim.

Sussex Police launched an extensive investigation, linking the three incidents through investigative enquiries and issuing public media appeals. In November 2021, officers tracked Jobe down and took him into custody. During police interviews, Jobe provided lengthy, false accounts to explain away the allegations, but detectives assembled a complete prosecution package supported by CCTV and witness testimony.

The victim of the first rape initially hesitated to provide full details due to fear, but came forward after seeing police media appeals regarding the second attack. Following a crown court trial at Hove Crown Court, a jury convicted Jobe on all counts.

Detective Constable Beth Griffiths noted that the city was significantly safer following Jobe’s removal from the community. The presiding judge sentenced Jobe to 15 years’ imprisonment for his crimes.
