A sex offender from East London who received an eight-year custodial sentence in 2021 after travelling to a town with sweets and a sex toy intent on abusing a toddler has been released from prison.
Shahmaan Ahmed, from Newham, was convicted and sentenced in 2021 following an undercover investigation conducted by Thames Valley Police targeting online child sexual exploitation.
The prosecution outlined that Ahmed entered into communications with an undercover police operative who was deploying fictitious profiles of two children, aged eight and three. Ahmed negotiated to meet the children to engage in sexual abuse.
Ahmed travelled to an arranged location to execute the meeting, where he was apprehended by police officers. A search conducted upon his arrest revealed that Ahmed had equipped himself with sweets and a sex toy to give to the intended victims.
Following his detention, Thames Valley Police seized Ahmed’s mobile phone for digital forensic analysis. Specialist officers recovered extensive evidence of highly sexualised chat histories demonstrating communications directed towards other children.
Passing sentence in 2021, Judge Kirsty Real stated that she had no doubt Ahmed would have proceeded to abuse the children had they been real individuals rather than undercover police profiles, sentencing him to eight years’ imprisonment.
Having served the custodial component of his determinate sentence, Ahmed has been released into the community on licence and is believed to have returned to the London Borough of Newham.
