In 2021, Nicholas Pearmain, a then 24-year-old man from Erdington, was jailed following a police investigation into historic sexual offences against a child.
Nicholas Pearmain, of Kings Road, Erdington, was sentenced at Northampton Crown Court to five years and three months in prison after being convicted of grooming and sexual abuse offences.
Investigating officers praised the victim’s immense bravery in coming forward to report the abuse, which was crucial in bringing the case to court. Forensic evidence gathered by police proved key to securing the conviction after Pearmain initially refused to comment during police interviews. Investigators were able to build an undeniable digital and physical profile that proved his responsibility beyond reasonable doubt. The court noted the significant long-term harm caused by his actions and stressed the necessity of a substantial custodial sentence.
In addition to his custodial sentence, Pearmain was given an extended four-year licence upon release. He was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life and made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) with indefinite notification requirements.
