In 2021, William Clapham, a then-85-year-old former taxi firm operator from Stamford, was jailed for 15 years after being convicted of raping and sexually abusing children over a span of seven decades.
William Clapham, of Drift Avenue, Stamford, was sentenced at Lincoln Crown Court after being found guilty by a jury of 20 offences, including rape, indecent assault, and showing pornography to a young child. The court heard that Clapham abused seven different girls over the course of his adult life. In 1963, Clapham had sought electric shock treatment from his GP regarding his sexual interest in young children, but failed to disclose that he had already begun abusing them, subsequently continuing his abuse for decades. During his trial, Clapham claimed he was framed and that his victims were lying, but the jury rejected his defence.
Judge Catarina Sjolin Knight described Clapham as a “predatory paedophile for almost the whole of your adult life” and sentenced him to 15 years in prison.
Following his convictions for child rape and historic sexual abuse, Clapham was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
He also remains subject to statutory public protection notification requirements, lifetime licence supervision, and mandatory risk management protocols by law enforcement upon any eventual release from custody.
