A Barnsley man, Steven Sayles, has been convicted of multiple sexual offences against a very young female minor and has been sentenced to 19 years in prison.
Steven Sayles, a 33-year-old former soldier from Elsecar, was convicted of four offences on May 19, 2021, following his plea of not guilty at a previous hearing.
The charges encompass the following: assault by touching, inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity, engaging in sexual activity in the presence of a child, and rape of a girl under 13.
The court was informed that Sayles simulated sexual intercourse with his victim and a juvenile boy during the trial and his sentencing.
On numerous occasions, he subjected the girl to rape and other sexual acts and compelled her to reciprocate.
Judge Rachael Harrison cited his attempt to prevent the young girl from informing others about his offence as an aggravating factor in her decision to impose the sentence.
Sayles was sentenced to 19 years of imprisonment at Sheffield Crown Court on Friday, June 25, 2021, and has been indefinitely listed as a sex offender.
Between 2017 and 2019, he committed the offences.
