In 2021, after assisting her paedophile partner in locating a toddler for sexual assault, a woman, Shannan Vicary, was sentenced to seven and a half years in prison.
Shannan Vicary, then 25, secretly orchestrated for the couple to be alone with the young girl for her older boyfriend to execute his attacks.
Cardiff Crown Court was informed that she was “anxious to assist” Michael Colmer and “encouraged” him in a succession of WhatsApp messages.
Her then 46-year-old boyfriend was apprehended only after the police discovered that he had accessed child pornography sites on his computer and had recorded two attacks on his iPad.
According to Prosecutor Matthew Cobbe, Vicary “facilitated” Colmer and disclosed that the couple exchanged communications in which they “excitedly anticipated the opportunity to abuse the child.”
The court was informed of the conversation, which commenced with a commentary on the attire of children in school, which later evolved into a carnal nature.
Colmer, who hails from Newport, South Wales, subsequently sent Vicary a photograph of his penis and made allusions to the activities they intended to engage in the following day.
The National Crime Agency discovered that an email address associated with the address had accessed indecent images, prompting the authorities to conduct a raid on his residence.
Colmer informed officers, “You will be able to locate them on my iPad and phone.”
The court was informed that he had over 600 images of child abuse on his devices, with a significant number of them being of children under the age of 18 months.
The girl’s mother issued a statement in which she stated, “The events that have transpired have had a profound impact on me.”
“I am ashamed of myself for failing to safeguard my daughter, as I was unaware of the situation.”
‘I am perplexed as to why these individuals perpetrated such an act against my daughter. I trust that they will never be in a position to inflict this on another individual. My family and I have been devastated by this.
Colmer confessed to sexual assault, inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, capturing an indecent photograph of a child and creating indecent images of children.
Vicary, who is also from Newport, acknowledged that he had either arranged or facilitated the commission of a juvenile sex offence.
Judge David Wynn Morgan informed Vicary that she may not have been interested in small children; however, she has manifestly facilitated Colmer’s sexual desires.
At an earlier hearing, Colmer was declared a “truly despicable human being” and sentenced to 17 years and four months in prison.
Judge Morgan informed him that “this case reveals behaviour by both you and Vicary of an almost unimaginable level of depravity.”
