The Shepherd’s Bush Stalker, Shaheen Chishti, was imprisoned in 2024 after harassing a woman for seven years.
Shaheen Chishti, 54, of Foxglove Street, Shepherds Bush, started sending sexually inappropriate emails and texts on social media after meeting a woman in 2016.
He continued to message the victim six years later, threatening to drown her and even contacting her mother. The victim reported Shaheen Chishti to law enforcement in December 2016 after the initial onslaught of unsolicited emails and messages.
Despite being warned by the police, he continued to message her on social media and from different phone numbers. In September 2022, Chishti re-established contact with the victim after acquiring her personal information.
He wrote to the victim’s mother in 2023, describing the sexual acts he intended to carry out and threatening to drown her because she couldn’t swim. On January 23, 2023, the victim informed the police that Shaheen Chishti had broken his restrictions and that he would soon be returning to the UK from India.
He was arrested upon arrival in the UK, and two cell phones were seized. He was placed under strict conditions that forbade him from speaking to the victim and was released on bail pending investigation.
During the inquiry, the Metropolitan Police discovered a considerable quantity of texts from Shaheen Chishti to the victim. Over the past seven years, she and her family have continued to face numerous threats.
Shaheen Chishti continued to try to contact the victim despite his new limits, and on October 5, 2023, he was captured. He was found guilty of stalking with the purpose of instilling fear of violence on Wednesday, April 24, and given a five-year prison sentence.
Police Constable Helen Constantinou, an officer assigned to Hammersmith & Fulham, stated: “Officers exerted considerable effort to ensure that Shaheen Chishti was held accountable for the ongoing stalking and harassment he perpetrated against his victim.” Some stalking victims are afraid to disclose these crimes to the police.
