In 2022, Mirel Stefan, the Mansfield Rapist, a violent rapist, was incarcerated for a “sadistic campaign” of physical and sexual torture against a susceptible woman.
Mirel Stefan raped, physically assaulted, and degraded his victim at a location in Mansfield throughout the spring and summer of 2020.
Mirel Stefan received a 10-year sentence during his appearance at Nottingham Crown Court on Wednesday.
The 28-year-old will serve a portion of his sentence in a guarded hospital facility.
Mirel Stefan was found guilty of controlling and coercive actions, as well as one count of rape.
Nottinghamshire Police reported that, in addition to abusing his victim, he denied her access to her own funds and confined her within a residence.
Mirel Stefan was apprehended after she managed to flee and notify the authorities.
Detective Inspector Stuart Barson noted, “The officer overseeing this investigation has asserted that Mirel Stefan is among the most violent offenders encountered in his policing career, and it is difficult to contest that evaluation.”
His cruel campaign of abuse was profoundly horrible and would undoubtedly have persisted had his victim not placed her trust in Nottinghamshire Police and reported the incidents occurring to her.
“This custodial sentence directly stems from her exceptionally courageous and compelling testimony.”
