Macauley Worden, who was convicted of attempted murder and rape, has been incarcerated for a period exceeding thirty years.
A senior detective has commended the courage exhibited by a rape victim in the aftermath of a man’s incarceration today (Friday, July 10).
Macauley Worden was sentenced to 34 years’ imprisonment at Leicester Crown Court after being convicted of attempted murder, rape, sexual assault, and robbery following a trial in April.
In the early hours of August 30, 2016, he assaulted his victim on the canal towpath near Belton Road in Loughborough, repeatedly striking and pushing them to the ground.
Worden, who was twenty-eight years old, subsequently sexually assaulted and violated the victim while attempting to strangle them. He fled the scene with their wallet and phone after the incident.
On September 3, Worden, who was without a permanent residence, was discovered sleeping in a tent in a field approximately one mile from the site of the incident.
Worden was also indefinitely placed on the sex offender register and subjected to an indefinite restraining order, which forbade any form of communication with the victim.
