In 2026, the Offender Register reported that Kieran Ridgway was brought to the police’s attention in 2021 following a report from the parents of two teenage females who were concerned.
Ridgway employed an alias to initiate a conversation with the females via Snapchat.
He would ask a series of arbitrary questions, and upon receiving a response, he would continue the conversation, offering the children alcohol if they participated in sexual activities with him.
Detective Constable Stacey Swan was able to determine that the girls, who were 12 and 13 at the time, had encountered a male in a car park who had offered them alcohol in exchange for performing a sexual act on him.
The victims did not engage in any physical interaction on this occasion and informed their parents of the incident.
In October 2021, DC Swan identified and apprehended 29-year-old Ridgway as a result of those enquiries.
She identified additional victims who had been contacted in the same manner as she had, through her diligent investigation.
Ridgway, of Coalville, contacted three females, all of whom were under 16, on the social media platform. They subsequently formed a friendship with him.
He deceived them about his age and exploited their vulnerability to draw them in.
All three of these victims were subjected to sexual activity by Ridgeway between June 2017 and February 2020.
One of the victims was genuinely convinced that she was in a relationship with him. Nevertheless, he persisted in contacting girls who were under the age of 18.
He was sentenced to nine years in prison and will be subject to a three-year extended licence period following his release. The court also imposed a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). Ridgway has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
