After raping a girl in her own bed, East London paedophile Garry Gibbons was imprisoned. On Wednesday, March 13, 2024, Garry Gibbons, 36, of Mile End, East London, was sentenced to six years and four months in prison for the rape of a minor under the age of eighteen at Snaresbrook Crown Court.
Garry Gibbons was sleeping in a home’s living room on April 18, 2023, while his little victim was sleeping in a bedroom. He got up early, went into the room where she was sleeping, and then sexually attacked her “notwithstanding her objections,” according to the police.
After that, the victim fled to a friend’s house and called the police. Garry Gibbons was later found to be a match for forensic samples taken from the victim’s clothing.
Despite leaving DNA evidence on the victim, Garry Gibbons was arrested on August 31, 2023, on charges of rape, which he denied. On March 6, 2024, he was found guilty.
According to Detective Inspector Chris Heathcote of the Public Protection Unit of the Metropolitan Police in Tower Hamlets, “Garry Gibbons is a predatory offender who assaulted a young girl while she slept and, despite her objections, raped her.
He vehemently denied the accusation, claiming that he had slept all night and had not visited the room. However, DNA examination of samples taken from the victims’ clothing produced different findings.
Garry Gibbons’ transfer from the community to a place where he no longer poses a threat to women and girls, he said, makes him happy.
We recognise that reporting rape can be distressing, particularly if the perpetrator is someone you know. I beg anyone in that situation to get in touch, even if it’s just to make sure you’re okay. In this instance, I feel sorry for the survivor. I’m hoping she can finally find closure.
