In 2026, the Offender Register reported that a 37-year-old man, Dean Dowson, was recently convicted of seven serious offences, including rape, serious sexual assault, physical assaults, intimidation, and coercive and controlling behaviour (CCB).

He has been sentenced to 15 years in prison and an additional five years on licence.

Dean Dowson was found guilty of the offences at the conclusion of May of this year. On Friday, at Teesside Crown Court, he was informed that in addition to serving a substantial amount of time in prison, he would also be subject to a lifelong restraining order, a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), and placement on the Sex Offenders Register.

The court was informed of the persistent pattern of physical, sexual, and psychological abuse that his female victim endured. This resulted in severe psychological injury, including repeated acts of rape and violent and degrading sexual assaults.

The offence was a component of a broader pattern of coercive and controlling behaviour in which Dowson manipulated the victim by monitoring her movements with cameras and reviewing her social media accounts.

Dowson also harassed and pursued the woman until he was apprehended outside her residence.
