Former television actor and convicted sex offender Chris Langham has died at the age of 77 following a diagnosis of pancreatic cancer, bringing an end to a life marked by public disgrace following his 2006 conviction for child sexual abuse offences.
Langham’s career collapsed in 2006 when he was arrested and prosecuted by police for downloading child abuse imagery, occurring just days after he received a Bafta award for his work on television.
During criminal proceedings, the court heard that police seized computer hardware containing 15 illegal digital files.
The prosecution detailed how the material included footage depicting the rape of a teenager and the sexual abuse of an eight-year-old child.

During the police investigation, allegations emerged that Langham had groomed and repeatedly abused a 14-year-old child who had attended a theatrical performance a decade earlier. Following a trial, Langham was acquitted by a jury of those specific charges.
The presiding judge sentenced Langham to ten months’ imprisonment for the child abuse image offences.
He served three months of the custodial term at HM Prison Elmley in Kent before being released on statutory licence in 2007.
Following his release, Langham attempted multiple returns to professional acting, but projects failed commercially as industry peers and casting directors permanently severed ties with him. Reports confirmed that Langham passed away nearly three months prior to the public announcement of his death.
