In 2021, Cloud Chunga, a then 46-year-old man of no fixed address, was jailed following a Leicestershire Police investigation into sexual offences involving a child.
Cloud Chunga was sentenced at Leicester Crown Court on Thursday, 24 June 2021, to six years in prison after pleading guilty to charges including meeting a child following grooming, sexual communication, and offences involving illicit digital material.
The court heard that Chunga contacted the victim on social media before arranging to meet her at an address in the Beaumont Leys area of Leicester. Officers stepped in after the victim was reported missing, uncovering the digital communications that led directly to Chunga’s arrest. Following the police investigation, detectives gathered overwhelming evidence that secured his swift conviction without the need for a trial. The court emphasised that his predatory actions online posed a direct and immediate risk to public safety. Judges remarked on the predatory nature of his communications across social platforms.
In addition to his custodial sentence, Chunga was placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life. He was also made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for life to monitor his future conduct.
