Burhan Din, aged 30, of no fixed abode, was sentenced to 14 years’ imprisonment at Bradford Crown Court on Friday, 14 August 2026, after being convicted of multiple child sexual offences and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The court heard that Din initiated contact with a teenage female child via social media, engaging in a calculated campaign of online grooming. Din, who was 12 years older than the victim, was fully aware from an early stage that she was a child. The abuse culminated at Din’s flat in Bradford, where he supplied the teenager with alcohol until she was intoxicated before carrying out serious sexual assaults and recording the acts on his mobile telephone.

West Yorkshire Police launched a criminal investigation after the victim disclosed the offending. Specialist detectives secured forensic evidence, seized digital devices containing mobile recordings, and established that Din had subsequently attempted to interfere with the judicial process.

Prior to trial, Din entered guilty pleas to charges of possessing an offensive weapon, namely a machete, and possession of cannabis. He maintained not guilty pleas to all sexual counts, requiring the matter to proceed to a jury trial. Following deliberations, the jury convicted Din of two counts of rape, four counts of sexual activity with a child, and one count of attempting to pervert the course of justice.

During the sentencing hearing, the victim delivered an impact statement describing the severe emotional trauma caused by the abuse, declaring that she had reclaimed her power as a survivor. Sentencing Din, Recorder Jason Pitter KC commended the complainant’s bravery and highlighted the severe risks posed to children by online predators.

The judge sentenced Din to a total custodial term of 14 years’ imprisonment, ordering that he remain subject to the sex offenders register for life and imposing an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
