Alexander Scott-Bowen, aged 24, of Kingswood, South Gloucestershire, has been sentenced at Bristol Crown Court after admitting seven counts of sexual assault against seven victims, including young girls.
The long-running investigation was launched by Avon and Somerset Police in 2022 following reports that a man was approaching young girls in Yate during January, March, and May.
In each case, the perpetrator engaged the children in conversation concerning their shoes or feet before grabbing their feet and sniffing them.
The original inquiry was paused after an e-fit appeal failed to yield sufficient evidence to charge a suspect.
In March 2025, two further young girls reported being stopped under identical circumstances in Kingswood.
Officers identified Scott-Bowen as a suspect and arrested him on 11 March 2025.
A search of his address uncovered clothing matching witness descriptions.
Subsequent laboratory analysis provided a breakthrough when forensic teams matched Scott-Bowen’s DNA to genetic material retrieved from the shoelaces of a trainer belonging to one of the 2022 child victims in Yate.
Doorbell video footage additionally showed him walking alongside one of the 2025 victims.
Despite being released on police bail while files were prepared, Scott-Bowen continued to offend.
On New Year’s Eve in 2025, two girls were approached at Cribbs Causeway, and on 21 January 2026, a woman was accosted in Stoke Gifford.
Police arrested Scott-Bowen three days later, remanding him into custody and seizing a mobile phone containing material indicative of a foot fetish.
Scott-Bowen entered guilty pleas to all seven counts of sexual assault on 6 July 2026.
At his sentencing hearing on Friday, 11 September 2026, the court imposed a custodial sentence of 38 weeks.
Release Calculation: Under UK sentencing legislation, time spent remanded in custody on secure remand counts day-for-day toward a custodial term. Having remained in prison custody continuously since his arrest in January 2026, Scott-Bowen had already exceeded the mandatory custodial period of the 38-week sentence. Consequently, he was discharged directly from court.
The court further imposed a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and ordered that Scott-Bowen remain subject to the notification requirements of the Sex Offenders Register for a period of 10 years.
