In 2026, the Offender Database confirmed that in one of the first convictions of its kind, a paramedic who was a victim of sex-based harassment had been granted justice following a Met investigation.
On April 1, 2026, new legislation was implemented that criminalises harassment motivated by an individual’s sex or presumed sex. It expands current public order legislation to allow courts to impose sentences of up to two years, rather than the current six-month maximum.
If officers have evidence that a suspect has intentionally caused another person harassment, alarm, or distress due to their sex or presumed sex, they may pursue charges for the new offence.
22 individuals were charged with the offence within the first three months of its implementation.
At Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, July 15, Ahmed Sheiki Ahmed, 40 (04.05.86) of Wales Close, Southwark, entered a plea of guilty to the charge of causing intentional harassment, alarm, or distress on account of sex to an on-duty paramedic. He was sentenced to three months in prison and fined £150.
Reports of a drunk man verbally abusing an ambulance crew were reported to the police on Sunday, April 5.
Ahmed was discovered at the location, verbally assaulting a female paramedic while she was administering emergency care, employing sexualised and misogynistic language.
He was promptly apprehended by officers for the new offence and for being inebriated and disorderly. The following day, he was indicted for both offences.
