In 2021, the Offender Register confirmed that after being found guilty of eavesdropping on and photographing a female in the shower while off-duty in Swiss Cottage, a Metropolitan Police officer who was assigned to the sexual offences unit was sentenced to a suspended sentence.

Upon his appearance at Southwark Crown Court on July 14, Detective Sergeant Benjamin McNish was sentenced to 20 weeks in prison, with the sentence suspended for two years.

The 30-year-old will also be required to complete a sexual offenders’ program, attend rehabilitation, and pay £750 in expenses. Additionally, they will be placed on the sex offender register for a period of seven years.

McNish was employed by the East Area Command Unit, which encompasses Barking and Dagenham, Havering, and Redbridge. His charge was associated with an incident that occurred on February 18, 2019, in Adelaide Road.

While the victim was showering, he utilised his smartphone to capture footage through a glass panel above a restroom door.

McNish asserted that he was searching for his razor when he inserted his mobile phone into the shower while the woman was naked.

McNish was arrested at the site after the female noticed the phone and confronted him. The police were summoned.

McNish was a police officer who was currently employed in the community safety department. He had previously been involved in the force’s sexual offences unit and child abuse investigations.
