Ablolom Okbazge, then aged 27, of no fixed abode, has been sentenced to nine years in prison at Bolton Crown Court following a violent physical attack on a woman in Wigan town centre.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday 18 December 2021. The victim, a 37-year-old woman who had become separated from her friends, was approached by Okbazge and led down an alleyway off King Street to a secluded area, where he subjected her to a prolonged assault.
Greater Manchester Police launched a rapid investigation, tracing Okbazge to the Britannia Hotel in Standish. Officers arrested him on 19 December 2021 and he was remanded in custody pending trial.
Okbazge denied the charge, but following a trial at Bolton Crown Court, a jury returned a guilty verdict.
On Thursday 3 November 2022, the presiding judge sentenced Okbazge to nine years’ imprisonment and ordered him to sign the sex offenders register for life.
