Sajid Bashir, aged 27, of Iron Gate, Derby, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison at Derby Crown Court following a violent physical campaign against two women.
The court heard Bashir subjected both victims to a series of grave personal attacks, including multiple counts of strangulation where he held them until they passed out. Derbyshire Police launched an investigation in 2023 when the first victim reported Bashir had physically assaulted and raped her.
While released on bail under investigation, Bashir targeted a second woman in 2025, threatening her with a weapon and subjecting her to further severe violence before he was remanded in custody. Detectives conducted extensive enquiries, compiling testimonial evidence and medical reports detailing the prolonged nature of his controlling and coercive behaviour.
Bashir pleaded guilty to some offences against the first woman but denied others. Following a crown court trial, a jury found him guilty of rape, stalking causing serious alarm, coercive control, and strangulation against the second victim.
In August 2026, the presiding judge categorized Bashir as a dangerous offender and sentenced him to a total of 16 years, comprising a 12-year custodial term and a four-year extended licence period. Bashir must serve at least two-thirds of his custodial sentence before parole consideration, and was issued indefinite restraining orders to safeguard both women, with all case details catalogued on the UK Register Database for public record transparency.
