A 42-year-old man from Bolton has been sentenced to 22 years’ imprisonment at Bolton Crown Court after being found guilty by a jury of a sustained and violent campaign of rape, coercive control, and stalking against three separate women.
Amar Manzoor, of Bolton, appeared for sentence following an extensive and complex multi-victim safeguarding inquiry conducted by Greater Manchester Police.
The prosecution outlined that Manzoor’s offending took place over a seven-year period between 2018 and 2025. Over this protracted timeframe, Manzoor subjected three different female partners to severe domestic abuse, physical assaults, stalking, non-fatal strangulation, and repeated acts of non-consensual sexual violence, including rape.
In addition to physical and sexual attacks, Manzoor established an atmosphere of fear and coercive control, seeking to dictate the day-to-day lives of the victims and subsequently taking deliberate steps to pervert the course of justice in an attempt to thwart police investigations and legal proceedings.
Manzoor contested the allegations and entered not guilty pleas, requiring the three survivors to attend court and give evidence during a contested Crown Court trial.
Following the presentation of the case and survivor testimony, the jury rejected Manzoor’s denials in their entirety, returning guilty verdicts on all 12 charges on the indictment:
Three counts of rape
Two counts of controlling and coercive behaviour
Three counts of assault
One count of non-fatal strangulation
Two counts of perverting the course of justice
One count of stalking
Passing sentence, the Crown Court judge condemned the systematic violence, sexual degradation, and psychological harm inflicted upon the three women, handing Manzoor an immediate custodial sentence of 22 years’ imprisonment.
To provide enduring protection for the survivors, the court granted lifetime restraining orders prohibiting Manzoor from having any direct or indirect contact with any of the three victims. The judge also directed that Manzoor remain subject to mandatory notification requirements on the Sex Offenders Register for life under the provisions of the Sexual Offences Act 2003, with strict statutory licence supervision conditions to be enforced upon his eventual release from prison.
Under the provisions of the Sexual Offences (Amendment) Act 1992, all victims and complainants connected to sexual offence proceedings are protected by automatic, lifelong statutory anonymity. Publishing, broadcasting, or disseminating any details, names, addresses, educational facilities, or photographs capable of leading to public identification is strictly prohibited under UK law.
