Sean Anderson, aged 37, of Queen Street, Seaton Carew, Hartlepool, was sentenced to 21 months’ imprisonment at Teesside Crown Court after pleading guilty to six counts of making and possessing indecent images of children and failing to comply with notification requirements.

The court heard that police initially uncovered Anderson’s offences in 2019 after he reported a tablet computer stolen from a guest house in Darlington, where he was living. A subsequent examination of his electronic devices uncovered more than 6,000 indecent images of children stored across three mobile phones and two laptop computers. Investigators also found email and messaging app communications with other individuals, text superimposed onto images of children, and two lengthy graphic abuse stories written by Anderson featuring a character named after himself.

Anderson entered guilty pleas to three counts of possessing indecent images in June 2020 and was released on bail. However, upon relocating to Hartlepool, Anderson failed to register his new address at a police station within the mandatory three-day statutory period.

In February 2021, police attended his address on Queen Street, Seaton Carew, and seized a laptop computer. Digital forensic analysis revealed an additional 916 indecent child images viewed and downloaded between October 2020 and 21 February 2021.

Appearing before Teesside Crown Court, Anderson admitted:

  • Three counts of making indecent images of children
  • Three counts of possessing indecent images of children
  • One count of failing to comply with sex offender notification requirements

Recorder Nicholas Lumley sentenced Anderson to a total of 21 months’ imprisonment, stating that downloading such material fuels the market for the abuse of children.
