Craig Mason, aged 34, of Fell View, Wigton, Cumbria, was sentenced to five years’ imprisonment at Carlisle Crown Court on Wednesday, 12 August 2026, after pleading guilty to making and distributing indecent images of children and breaching sex offender notification requirements.
The court heard that Mason was subject to statutory sex offender notification conditions following previous convictions for indecent image offences committed between 2018 and 2024. Under the terms of his Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), Mason was legally mandated to register all internet-enabled hardware, digital accounts, and usernames with law enforcement.
During a routine compliance visit conducted by Cumbria Police’s Management of Sexual Offenders and Violent Offenders (MOSOVO) unit, Mason informed attending officers that he did not possess a mobile telephone or maintain any social media profiles. Acting on operational procedures, officers carried out a search of the premises and located a mobile handset concealed within Mason’s bedroom.
Subsequent digital forensic examination of the device established that Mason had created and operated several undeclared social media profiles. Investigators also recovered files confirming that Mason had engaged in making and distributing indecent images of children.
Appearing before Carlisle Crown Court, Mason entered guilty pleas to the indictment.
On 12 August 2026, the presiding judge sentenced Mason to a total custodial term of five years’ imprisonment. The court additionally ordered that Mason remain subject to the notification requirements of the sex offenders register for a period of ten years.
