David Haley, aged 40, of Marden, Kent, has been returned to custody after being handed a four-year prison sentence alongside an extended licence period of four years at Maidstone Crown Court for extensive child exploitation offences and breaching judicial orders.

The court heard that Haley was previously sentenced to over six years in prison in 2015 for sexual assault and related offences involving indecent images of children. Following his eventual release from custody, he was made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) and strict notification requirements under the sex offenders register. The order explicitly mandated that Haley must present any electronic or digital devices in his possession to law enforcement officers upon request for spot inspections.

On 5 September, officers from Kent Police carried out an unannounced compliance visit to Haley’s residential address in Marden to inspect his mobile phone. Upon examining the hardware, officers uncovered hundreds of indecent images depicting child abuse. Further technical investigation revealed that Haley had been actively using encrypted mobile applications configured to automatically delete messages and media after viewing. Additionally, Haley operated an online pseudonym under the profile name ‘Amy’, which he utilized to interact with other internet users and share prohibited content.

Police investigators arrested Haley at the scene and seized the mobile device for detailed technical analysis. Analysts from Kent Police extracted stored data, application traffic logs, and deleted media caches to construct an unshakeable evidence package demonstrating his active engagement with illegal materials and deliberate evasion of public protection monitoring.

Appearing at Maidstone Crown Court, Haley entered formal guilty pleas to three counts of making indecent images of children, two counts of possessing extreme pornographic images, breaching his Sexual Harm Prevention Order, and failing to comply with the notification requirements of the sex offenders register.

The presiding judge determined that Haley posed a significant and ongoing risk of harm to children, passing an extended sentence comprising four years’ immediate imprisonment followed by a four-year extended licence period upon release. Haley was also ordered to remain on the sex offenders register indefinitely. Police representatives highlighted that proactive spot checks and rigorous monitoring remain vital tools in holding repeat offenders accountable and maintaining public safety.
