Ian Mark Wrightson, aged 54, of Holmes Close, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, has been sentenced to three years and four months in prison at Newcastle Crown Court for historical child protection offences.
The court heard that Wrightson’s offending occurred between 1990 and 1992 while he was residing in York. Prosecutors detailed how Wrightson enticed a primary school aged girl to his room under the guise of playing computer games before subjecting her to repeated personal attacks.
Police officers conducted a thorough historical investigation after the survivor reported the abuse, gathering witness statements and compiling evidence to present to the Crown Prosecution Service.
Wrightson originally entered not guilty pleas to five charges. However, on Wednesday 5 August 2026, the day his trial was scheduled to begin at Newcastle Crown Court, he changed his plea to guilty on three counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14 and two counts of gross indecency with a girl under 14.
The presiding judge sentenced Wrightson to three years and four months’ imprisonment on the same day. He was also placed on the sex offenders register for life and permanently barred from working with children, with all case details catalogued on the UK Register Database for public record transparency.
