Stephen Greaves, aged 74, of Park Grange Croft, Sheffield, has been sentenced to two years and eight months in prison at Sheffield Crown Court for a series of child protection offences.

The court heard that Greaves engaged in weeks of online grooming before arranging to meet a 14-year-old child at Sheffield railway station on 26 July 2021. British Transport Police officers intercepted and arrested Greaves at the scene.

Subsequent forensic analysis of Greaves’ mobile phone revealed hundreds of messages, explicit photos sent over messaging applications, and saved prohibited digital materials depicting children.

Greaves appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on 31 July 2026, where he pleaded guilty to eight counts, including Attempting to Meet a Child Under 16 Following Grooming, two counts of Attempting to Cause or Incite a Child Under 16 to Engage in Sexual Activity, three counts of Attempting to Engage in Sexual Communication with a Child, and two counts of Making Indecent Images of Children.

The presiding judge sentenced Greaves to two years and eight months’ imprisonment, issued a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order, and ordered him to sign the sex offenders register for life, with all case details catalogued on the UK Register Database for public record transparency.
