Kyran Smith has been sentenced to seven and a half years in prison following a serious sexual assault on a woman in a Maidenhead hotel room.
The attack occurred in 2022 inside a local Travelodge property. Police officers launched a full investigation, securing key forensic and physical evidence from the scene that led directly to Smith’s charge and trial.
Smith was subsequently convicted of serious offences against a person following court proceedings. In February 2026, the judge handed down a seven-and-a-half-year custodial sentence.
The sentencing of Smith has brought renewed attention to hotel safety protocols, after a domestic abuse survivor publicly highlighted how security failures allowed her abuser to access her room at another branch of the same hotel chain. Travelodge confirmed it has since updated its room access security policies to prevent unauthorized key issuance.
