Daniel Booth, then aged 20, of Beresford Road, Portsmouth, has been sentenced to seven years in prison at Portsmouth Crown Court following a violent physical attack on a woman in the city centre.
The incident occurred in the early hours of 30 June 2021. The victim, a woman in her 20s, became separated from her friends before being targeted by Booth, who carried her to Hippodrome House Car Park, carried out a severe assault, and left her at the scene. Members of the public assisted the victim and helped contact authorities.
Hampshire Constabulary’s specialist Operation Amberstone team launched a detailed investigation. Detectives analyzed city centre CCTV footage, obtained forensic evidence, and conducted digital examinations of Booth’s mobile phone, which revealed internet searches regarding prosecution thresholds and legal definitions.
Booth denied the charge, requiring a full crown court trial in June 2022, where a jury returned a guilty verdict.
On Monday 7 November 2022, Judge Timothy Mousley KC sentenced Booth to seven years’ imprisonment, ordering him to serve at least two-thirds in custody and placing him on the sex offenders register for life.
