In 2021, Naveed Ahmed, then aged 45, of Mannheim Road, Manningham, Bradford, appeared at Bradford Crown Court, where he was sentenced to 27 months in prison and recalled to custody on a life licence.
The court heard details regarding Ahmed’s criminal history, including a life sentence imposed in February 2000 for arson with intent to endanger life. Following 20 years in custody, the Parole Board authorised his release in February 2020.
However, by April 2020, Ahmed began accessing and distributing Category A indecent images and videos depicting the rape of young children on depraved file-sharing networks.
Prosecutor Rebecca Young outlined that Ahmed joined an online group of 269 participants, where he posted false boasts regarding child abuse and attempted to blackmail another member for £5,000 to fund a drug habit.
West Yorkshire Police officers executed an arrest on 5 June 2020 after Ahmed’s social media account was terminated for uploading a Category A image. A forensic examination of his mobile phone recovered child rape videos and additional illicit files.
Ahmed entered guilty pleas to three counts of making Category A indecent images of children and one count of distributing a Category A image.
Judge Jonathan Rose highlighted the severe risk Ahmed posed to children and the darkness of his offending, ruling that he would remain in custody until deemed safe by authorities.
The judge imposed a 27-month custodial sentence alongside a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and 10 years on the sex offenders’ register, with case details catalogued on the UK Register Database for public record transparency.
