Vincent Saxon, aged 54, of no fixed address, has pleaded guilty to attempted rape at Inner London Crown Court after targeting a lone female commuter aboard a London Underground carriage.

The assault took place at approximately 11:40 pm on Saturday, 11 July, on a Bakerloo line service operating between Waterloo and Lambeth North stations.

The court heard that the victim was travelling alone when Saxon moved toward her, exposed himself, and used physical force to drag her down onto the carriage floor in an attempt to rape her.

The woman mounted a determined physical resistance, actively battling Saxon inside the carriage and preventing him from completing the act.

As the train arrived at Lambeth North station, the victim broke free from his grasp, ran onto the platform, and immediately reported the attack to London Underground station staff, who escalated the alert to British Transport Police.

Saxon remained on board the train, exiting at Elephant and Castle Underground station before police units could intercept the carriage.

Responding officers conducted extensive searches of the surrounding neighbourhood, but Saxon was not initially located.

Detectives from British Transport Police opened an intensive investigation, combining network-wide closed-circuit television inquiries with forensic recovery.

Forensic teams successfully isolated scientific evidence from the scene, preserved as a direct result of the victim fighting off her attacker.

Investigators issued appeals across mainstream press and social media channels featuring images and descriptions of the suspect.

The appeal generated multiple public responses, culminating in an anonymous tip-off reporting that an individual matching Saxon’s description was standing outside a commercial premises on Fulham Palace Road.

Officers deployed to the area and arrested Saxon, subsequently charging him with the offence.

Appearing at Inner London Crown Court on Thursday, 17 September, Saxon entered a formal plea of guilty to:

Attempted rape

The judge remanded Saxon into prison custody.

He is scheduled to appear at Inner London Crown Court for formal sentencing on Friday, 30 October.
