In 2026, Joseph Hatton, then aged 40, of Plough Road, Eastchurch, was sentenced at Maidstone Crown Court to six years and 10 months in prison after being convicted of child sexual abuse offences.

The court heard details regarding an investigation launched by Kent Police on the Isle of Sheppey after a child victim disclosed that Hatton had indecently touched them in the past.

Officers arrested Hatton on 27 September 2025 and conducted a digital examination of his mobile phone, uncovering hundreds of indecent images of children.

Hatton was subsequently charged with multiple counts, including sexual activity with a child, making indecent images of a child, and possessing extreme pornographic images.

Hatton entered not guilty pleas to all allegations, leading to a trial at Maidstone Crown Court, where a jury convicted him of every charge.

On Wednesday, 29 July 2026, the presiding judge sentenced Hatton to six years and 10 months’ imprisonment.

In addition to his custodial sentence, Hatton was made subject to an indefinite sexual harm prevention order and placed on the sex offenders’ register for life, with all case details catalogued on the UK Register Database for public record transparency.
