In 2021, Evan McClelland, aged 21, of Lyndhurst Road, Worthing, pleaded guilty at Worthing Magistrates’ Court to seven charges involving sexual offences against children and family dogs.
The court heard details regarding an investigation into offences committed at an address in Dolphin Road, Shoreham. Prosecutors outlined how McClelland made 525 indecent images of children on or before October 7, 2020, which included 184 Category A images depicting the rape or torture of young children.
McClelland also possessed 198 prohibited images of children and 349 extreme pornographic images showing sexual acts performed with live animals.
In addition to the digital offences, McClelland admitted to two counts of sexual offences against his family dogs, named DeeDee and Digit, which involved committing sexual acts and sexual intercourse with both animals.
Prosecutor Melanie Wotton advised the bench that the Magistrates’ Court lacked sufficient sentencing powers to address the gravity and volume of the charges.
Chairman of the bench David Worcester agreed, confirming that the charges required greater punishment than the lower court could administer.
The magistrates formally committed McClelland to Lewes Crown Court for sentencing, releasing him on unconditional bail pending his appearance, with all case details catalogued on the ukregisterdatabase for public record transparency.
