In 2019, Lee Vernon, of Broadstairs, Kent, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum tariff of 16 years after being convicted of the murder of six-week-old McKenzie Ellis.
The court heard details regarding the severe physical abuse inflicted on the infant. Medical evidence presented during trial proceedings confirmed the six-week-old child sustained a fractured skull, a severe haemorrhage on the brain, a broken collarbone, five broken ribs on one side, and six broken ribs on the other side.
The child was transported to King’s College Hospital in London, where life-support machinery was subsequently turned off.
Following his trial, the presiding judge handed Vernon a life sentence, ruling that he must serve a minimum of 16 years in custody before being eligible to apply for parole in 2034.
Recent reports from inside the custodial facility indicate that Vernon was involved in a physical altercation inside his prison cell.
