In 2021, Stuart Tomey, a then 36-year-old man from Bedford, was jailed following a police investigation into sexual offences involving a child.

Stuart Tomey, of Rutland Road, Bedford, was sentenced on 16 June 2021 to a total of five years in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of sexual activity with a child, along with a breach of bail conditions.

The offences took place between April and November 2020 before being disclosed to law enforcement. Following his arrest in December 2020, officers commended the victim’s bravery in coming forward, which led to the investigation and subsequent conviction. The police investigation confirmed that Tomey posed a significant risk, resulting in his immediate remand and ultimate custodial sentence. Detectives noted that the victim’s courage was vital to holding Tomey accountable for his criminal actions.
