In 2026, the Offender Register reported that a 16-year sentence was imposed today on a taxi driver, Khalafalla Yagoub, who abducted a vulnerable woman and sexually assaulted her in her own home.
Khalafalla Yagoub (19/01/1980), of Burnett Avenue, Salford, was convicted of rape last month. His sentencing is scheduled for today (13 July) at Manchester Crown Court.
The court was informed that on the evening of November 28, 2025, a 19-year-old woman was in Manchester with her companions.
Although the woman was intoxicated, in a vulnerable state, and had not reserved a taxi, Yagoub collected her in her taxi after she exited a bar at 3 a.m. the following morning.
Yagoub sexually assaulted the woman upon returning her to her residence. He had asserted in a police interview that he had assisted the woman and that it was mutual, describing it as a “gift” for transporting her home.
This was revealed to be a malicious fabrication.
Yagoub’s victim reported feeling unwell in the days that followed, and she promptly received a call from him, unaware of his identity. Yagoub informed the woman about their encounter, and she came to the realisation that she had been assaulted while in a vulnerable and intoxicated state, with no recollection of the event. Although she had some images in her mind, she had assumed that they were a hallucination.
She then reported the incident to the police with courage.
Officers were unable to locate Yagoub; however, they soon learned that he was scheduled to depart for Istanbul on December 3. His arrest at the airport prevented him from boarding, and he was subsequently brought into custody.
The victim of Yagoub courageously testified during the trial, and Yagoub was observed to be amused as she read it aloud. The judge subsequently recognised this in his sentencing remarks.
In total, Yagoub was sentenced to 11 years of imprisonment, with a five-year extension of his licence. Additionally, he will be subject to a restraining order and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO).
