In 2026, the Offender Register reported that Karl Southey, a man in his 20s, sexually assaulted a 16-year-old girl after entering her campervan.

On July 3, Oxford Crown Court sentenced Karl Southey, of Grebe Close, Abingdon.

A jury deemed the 29-year-old guilty of one count of assault by penetration during a trial that took place earlier this year.

The offence was committed in Abingdon on May 30, 2023, according to the court.

David Parvin, the prosecutor, informed the court that Southey entered a campervan where the 16-year-old victim was residing on the day in question and sexually assaulted her.

She advised him to depart, but he persisted in his assault.

Mr Parvin summarised a victim impact statement that had been previously furnished.

Mr Parvin said she had been diagnosed with complex post-traumatic stress disorder and had been suffering from stress-induced seizures.

The barrister said: “It affected her education because she left school without completing exams. She had anxiety, which made it difficult for her to work.”

Mr Parvin said: “The complainant was particularly vulnerable. He forced entry into the campervan. He was intoxicated at the time.”

The court heard that Southey has eight previous convictions for 12 offences.

Southey was jailed for a total of four years. He was also handed a 10-year restraining order not to contact the victim and must comply with notification requirements indefinitely.
